Room Obscura è il nome di questo progetto che ha l’intento di riprodurre, all’interno della camera oscura, l’idea controintuitiva di indeterminazione che, avanzata nell’ambito sperimentale della fisica quantistica, irrompe e contagia tutti i campi della riflessione dell’uomo sulla possibilità di conoscere il mondo: dalla filosofia, all’arte, alla musica. Il principio di indeterminazione abbatte i limiti della neutralità dell’osservazione scientifica e della conoscenza in senso lato, presumendo anzi un legame intrinseco tra chi conosce e ciò che è conosciuto −nella metafora della camera oscura, l’impronta indelebile della prospettiva di chi osserva− e in più esige che questo legame crei una differenza tra passato e futuro: l’osservazione modifica la realtà. La camera oscura ricapitola allora questo percorso che va dal primo entusiasmo per la scoperta che suggella il potere dell’uomo di vedere senza occhi, di spiare la realtà senza lʼingombro della sua presenza, congelandola nel tempo e nella luce, fino alla deriva del dato descrittivo della prospettiva che rende oggettiva non la realtà né lʼocchio che osserva, ma costruisce reciprocamente lʼuno nel destino dell’altro.

Room Obscura is the name of this project that tries to replicate, within the darkroom, the counterintuitive idea of indetermination, hypothesized in quantum physics experiments, that breaks and infects all areas of man’s reflection on the possibility of knowing the world, philosophy, art, music. The principle of indetermination breaks down the limits of neutrality of scientific observation and knowledge in a broad sense, even assuming an intrinsic link between the knower and what is known – in the metaphor of the darkroom, the imprint of the perspective of the observer – and more, demands that this relationship creates a difference between past and future: observation changes reality. Thus the darkroom summarizes this path from the initial enthusiasm for the discovery that seals the power of man to see without eyes, to spy on the reality without the bulk of his presence, freezing it in time and in light, until the drift of the descriptive data of perspective that makes objective not the reality neither the watching eye, but mutually builds the one in the other’s fate.

Biografia —
Lorenzo DʼAmore è laureato in chimica presso lʼUniversità degli Studi di Perugia. Nel 2010, insieme a Gianluca Cillo, viene selezionato e partecipa al LPM – Live Performance Meeting a Roma con “Molecular Dynamic”, una performance audiovisiva in cui tutti i video loop sono derivati dal suo lavoro di tesi ed ottenuti attraverso calcoli di dinamica molecolare e teoria del funzionale della densitˆ elettronica, svolti mediante cluster computing. Sempre nel 2010 comincia ad interessarsi di fotografia digitale e partecipa al progetto nazionale “Creativi Senza Limiti”, diretto sul territorio irpino da Antonio Bergamino. Nel 2011 frequenta un corso di tecniche di camera oscura con il collettivo Cuartonigro Photolab di Perugia, insieme a cui tiene la mostra “Aria – venti stampe su gelatina dʼargento” ospitata dal circolo Project On Island. Gli studi di chimica hanno un ruolo determinante ed entrano sempre nellʼambito delle sue passioni tanto che, attualmente, il suo interesse principale è rivolto alla preparazione di rivelatori fotografici ad alta acutanza e finegranulanti.

Biography —
Lorenzo DʼAmore graduated in chemistry at University of Perugia. In 2010, along with Gianluca Cillo, participated in LPM – Live Performance Meeting in Rome – with “Molecular Dynamic”, an audiovisual performance in which all the video loops are derived from his thesis works, obtained through molecular dynamics calculations and electronic density functional theory, carried out by cluster computing. Also in 2010 he became interested in digital photography and took part in the national project “Creativi Senza Limiti”, directed by Antonio Bergamino in Irpinia. In 2011 he attended a course in darkroom techniques with the collective Cuartonigro Photolab of Perugia, with which he did the exhibition “Aria – venti stampe su gelatina dʼargento” hosted by the Project On Island circle. The chemistry studies have a role to play: they are always in the path of his passions so that, at present, his main interest is directed to the preparation of high acutance and fine granulating photo detectors.
