GHOST LIGHTS ’13: ”HIDE AND SEEK”

ghost lightGhost Lights ’13 is a selection of new videoworks distributed by the Finnish media art distribution centre AV-arkki.

The compilation is curated by Kari Yli-Annala and Ivan Punzo.

Things tend to hide and seek in this screening.

1. Ulu Braun: Tower of Invicibility (2012) 15′ 52″
A film installation created in a neo-melodramatic style about the advancement of an esoteric health and sports camp in the early 20th century.The film takes place at the Teufelsberg, a former listening station during the Cold War in Berlin.

2. Outi Sunila: Platoon (2012) 7′ 40″
Group of blind soldiers fumble through a pine tree forest, trying to find their way in darkness.

3. Anssi Kasitonni: Butterfly’s Effect (2013) 9′ 05″
Butterfly effect turns out to be butterfly ineffectiveness in this small story. it´s mainly a story about destiny or the absence of it. This film contains also one miracle.

4. Maija Saksman: Don’t Touch (2012) 1′ 23″

5. Jan Ijäs: Two Islands (2013) 5′ 10″
The film is about two enormous rubbish dumps in New York’s Staten Island and Hart Island. The former was once the world’s largest rubbish dump but is now closed. The latter is a cemetery for unknowns and still in use. “Two Islands” bluntly asks, what does the existence of the two huge mountains of economic and social waste and rejected surplus tell us about our civilization and about the “richest nation in the world”, and what kind of legacy will the future archaeologists find in them?

6. Tommi Matikka: Small Heroes (2013) 2′ 21″
Tommi Matikka´s super heroes live their computer game lives on the roofs and electric lines of a small african village – until the game is over.
