Monolake

Monolake è un progetto di musica elettronica berlinese attualmente portato avanti da Robert Henke, artista multidisciplinare, compositore, sound designer, programmatore e audiovisual performer, ma che negli anni ha visto il contributo di altri artisti come Gerhard Behles (co-fondatore e successivamente a capo della compagnia che sviluppa il software musicale Ableton Live) e di Torsten Pröfrock (ai più noto come T++).

La produzione artistica di Henke si concentra nell’attenzione per la produzione di dettagli che penetrano la superficie sensoriale immediatamente percepibile dipanandosi lungo graduali mutazioni di strutture iterate su diverse scale temporali. Nella sua produzione è facile ritrovare la volontà di dare pari importanza si al livello di interazione tra i registri sonoro e visivo sia allo spazio fisico in cui le performance e le installazioni hanno luogo. Di recente la sua attenzione si è focalizzata su alcune nuove tecnologie come la Wave Field Synthesis e l’Ambisonics, unite alla produzione di grandi proiezioni ad alta risoluzione per creare situazioni di totale immersione sensoriale con l’intento di dissociare l’esperienza spaziale dal luogo reale. Installazioni di Robert Henke sono state esposte al Tate Modern di Londra, al Centre Pompidou di Parigi, al MUDAM in Lussemburgo, e al  PS1 di New York.

Negli corso della sua carriera Henke ha pubblicato più di venti album, contribuendo con il sound minimal (con frequenti incursioni nei territori dub e techno) di Monolake  a creare il “soundmark” dell’etichetta berlinese Chain Reaction, per poi passare dal 1999 a  produrre i suoi lavori con la propria etichetta Monolake / Imbalance Computer Music.

Attualmente Robert Henke sta proponendo il suo ultimo lavoro “Ghosts”, seguito del già ottimo “Silence” e che insieme confermano un talento tecnico-stilistico indiscutibile. Quest’anno in anteprima nazionale, siamo lieti di ospitare “Ghosts in Surround”. Una performance multisensoriale, con audio in multicanale e proiezioni su schermo 16 x 8, con cui Henke ci porterà nei non-luoghi dell’astrazione accompagnato da Tarik Barri per la parte visuale (video generativo in rel-time). Un viaggio tra wave field synthesis, ambisonics e proiezioni ad alta risoluzione per creare e ri-creare situazioni in cui potersi immergere totalmente, separando l’esperienza spaziale dallo spazio dato, o al contrario esaltando le proprietà intrinseche dello spazio stesso, virando verso sonorità ancora più dark ed industrial.

Monolake is an electronic music project based in Berlin now perpetuated only by Robert Henke, a multidisciplinary artist, composer, sound designer, programmer and audiovisual performer but over the years has seen the contribution of other artists such as Gerhard Behles (co-fondator and now running Ableton Music Software Company) and Torsten Pröfrock (aka T++).

His artistic production is focused on the productions of details that penetrate the immediately perceptible sensorial surface unraveling along gradual mutations of repeating structures in different time scales. In his production it is easy to find the will to give same importance both to the interaction between the sound and visual layers and to the physical space in which performances and installations take place.Recently, his attention has been focused on new technologies such as Wave Field Synthesis and Ambisonics combined with the production of large-scale high-resolution projections to create situations of total sensorial immersion with in order to pull apart the spatial experience from the real place. Henke’s installations have been shown at the Tate Modern in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, MUDAM in Luxembourg and at the PS1 in New York.

Over the course of his career Henke has published more than twenty albums, contributing with the Monolake’s minimal sound (with frequent incursions into dub and techno territories) to create the soundmark of Chain Reaction a label based in Berlin, then, starting from 1999 he began to produce his works under his own label, the Monolake / Imbalance Computer Music.

Robert Henke is currently performing the new work “Ghosts”, follow-up of the excellent “Silence”, confirming the value of his talent on both style and technique. His audiovisual works have been exhibited in many places across the world such as London (Tate Modern), Paris (Centre Pompidou), Luxembourg (MUDAM), New York (PS1 and EMPAC), Sidney (Art Gallery), Barcellona (Sonar Festival). This summer there will be a special preview for Italy: Monolake is going to perform his new multisensorial work “Ghosts in Surround” just for Flussi. A multi-sensory performance with multi-channel audio and projection screen 16 x 8 meters. Henke will lead us in non-places of abstraction accompanied by Tarik Barri for the live visuals (real-time generative video). Be ready for a trip through wave, fields, synthesis, ambisonics and  high-resolution projections that creates a new ambient to be immersed in; space experience and real space are now separated while sound gets darker with industrial vibes.
