Fabio Orsi + Selfish
In primo luogo la capacità innegabile di elaborare architetture complesse ed evocative, coinvolgenti e trascinanti con pochissimi elementi di base: un beat, un loop, una sensazione o una suggestione (spesso anche extra-musicale) che prendono il loro tempo per crescere a dismisura, montando come maree, increspandosi o facendosi flutti rovinosi. Divenendo un magma in cui però gli elementi di partenza, pur trasfigurati nell’insieme, restano sempre ben riconoscibili.
Poi, l’extra-territorialità del proprio suono. Orsi è uomo del sud trapiantato a Berlino, la capitale della Mitteleuropa musicale; e questa bipolarità apparentemente contrastante sembra invece rappresentare il suo punto di forza. Difficile affermare che i cinque Loipe privi di titolo in cui è suddiviso l’esordio per Boring Machines – sempre in tattile cartonato impreziosito dai fotogrammi in b/n dello stesso Orsi – non siano gelidi nel loro robotico incedere o stranianti nelle spire ipnotiche che li costituiscono. C’è però un senso di latente calore, come di un suono materico, che pervade le (tr)ascendenti visioni del tarantino. Come se qualcosa dei field recordings e delle textures psicogeografiche degli esordi sia giocoforza tracimato nella nuova incarnazione con la quale Orsi si presenta da qualche disco a questa parte. E cioè, un kraut dal gusto retrofuturista, cosmico e minimale come solo i corrieri teutonici hanno saputo essere, ma privo di quel senso pop che tanti ipnagogici d’ultima generazione danno a vedere.” Stefano Pifferi
Quest’anno a Flussi propone un nuovo set in compagnia di Selfish (Giovanni Antignano) visual artist toscano residente in giappone, con cui ha collaborato già e con cui condividerà il palco per rapire l’attenzione dell’ascoltatore/spettatore.
First, the undeniable ability to process complex architectures and evocative, engaging and compelling with a few basic elements: a beat, a loop, a feeling or a suggestion (often non-musical) who take their time to grow out of control, mounting as tides, waves rippling or becoming ruinous. They turn into a magma in which the starting elements, while transfigured as a whole, remain clearly recognizable.
Then, the extra-territoriality of his sound. Orsi is a man of the south transplanted to Berlin, the north-Europa music capital. And this apparently contrasting bipolarity seems to be his strong point. Difficult to argue that the five “Loipe” with no title in the debut for Boring Machines – always in paper carbon case enriched with fine arts b/w pictures by Fabio himself – are not frozen in their robotic pace or the hypnotic alienating loops that constitute them. But there is a sense of latent warmness as an organic sound, which pervades the (tr)a(n)scending visions of Taranto land. As if something about the psychogeographical textures and field recordings of the early days is overflowed into the new incarnation by with Orsi shows himself from some past works until now. That is, a retro-kraut flavor, cosmic and minimal as only the teutonic couriers know how to, but without that sense of hypnagogic pop shown by many last generation musicians.” Stefano Pifferi
This year, Fabio will perform a brand new liveset together with Selfish (John Antignano) a fine Tuscan visual artist residing in Japan, which has already worked with and whom he will share the stage to steal the attention of the listener.
