Project Description

The installation “MOTUS, whatever we are…” is designed for the transmission of 7 synchronized monitors.

The subjects are forced into a state of prolonged immobility, like trapped inside the space of the monitor. In this condition they perceive sensations of a biological nature (cold, hot, headache, etc).

This work stems from a question about individual repetitiveness (in-divìduus = indivisible), the presumption of uniqueness and originality that is the basis of every personality. The question that arises in this experiment is that what constitutes extraordinary, beyond the psychological and behavioral responses, often compulsive, determined by the environment.
MOTUS, was premiered at the 53rd International Art Exhibition in Venice in the Détournment Venise 2009.
